Nappiversary & Post-Cut Styles

Today is my 7 year Nappiversary!  I really can't believe that it was only 7 years ago when I made the decision to stop relaxing my hair.  Goodness, it doesn't seem that long ago, but i'm still amazed by what my hair can do.  Better yet, I absolutely enjoy wearing all 226 of my traditional locks because they are growing strong, healthy and bigger in size.

Style #1: Curls

Since cutting my double headed dragons I knew that styling my locs would be a little easier because I had less locs on my head.  When I rolled my hair with loc loops, I noticed that I used fewer rollers than before and I could fit them comfortably all over my head.  Before they used to be big and bulky because I had so many locs.  The next morning I took them out and I had light-weight bouncy curls!  My head felt so much lighter and the curls looked fabulous.  My locs are about arm-pit-length, but shrink up when they are styled.  These curls lasted longer after cutting my locs, even at this length, so I can only imagine how long they will last as my locs continue to grow in length.

Style #2: Bantu-Knot Out
The last time I wore a bantu-knot out was exactly 2 years ago (Nov. '08) and I hadn't worn this style since because I had too many locs and not enough room on my head to fit all of them.  I spontaneously attempted to create this style again one night and the next morning they kind of flopped a little because I made them too big.  So a week later I made them even smaller and this is how they came out.  This style would have lasted me at least two weeks, but I wash my hair weekly so I had to make the most out of this style before wash day.  It's a nice change from my typical curls or braidouts, but it's not at the top of my style list.

You continue to inspire me. I was seriously thinking about cutting off my locks to start over until I started reading your blog. There may be more "Felicias" out there, so please don't stop. Happy Nappversary!

Wow, your locks look great. I'm glad that you could make the best out of them. Cutting them seem to really work. One thing I can say about you, you experiment with your locks and make them work for you! Keep it up.

Question, what do you curl your locks with now?

I have been following your loc adventure for a few years now and I must say that you are true advocate for DO IT YOURSELF. I had larger SL's which I took down and replaced with mini mirco SL'S which I maintain myself. Thanks for encouraging others with natural hair to be in charge of what belongs to them.

Stay blessed and keep up the good work-loving the curls X

Thank you for your detailed compendium of your lock experiences! You have been a resource for me for the past three years and I appreciate you soooo much! Your hair is beautiful as are you. I have sisterlocks too and am loving them. I am also considering traditional locks for the future - perhaps in a few years too. Love Ya!

Thanks everyone!

@Felicia:I'm so glad that you didn't cut your locs, but why were you planning to?

@Anon/Kendi: That's so true because no matter the outcome I would still have to live with them, so I might as well make them work for me. :-) I still used my loc loops to curl my hair.

@Exp.Beauty: Thank you. Yours too!

@Anon #2: That's so awesome and more power to you as a DIYer.

@Q.L.: Thanks!

@Lotus Doll: Awe, you're so sweet. I'm more than happy to share my journey especially if I know it will help someone.

@B: That's awesome to hear! Your locs look so lovely too! Honestly I feel like I have a whole new set myself.

@TWI: I know! I can't believe it!

@MHDip: Totally understandable :-) and your hair looks fabulous!

Can I ask how many locs to a locloop? I love those curls and I want something similar for my daughter's wedding. I've got soft spikes so they shd work too. As always, your hair is beautiful.
Thanks

Congratulations Dewdrop!! I knew we had a connection back on Nappturality.com although that was a while back. My 7 year anniversary is exactly one day before yours and your hair and blog have been nothing short of amazing. Looking forward to reading more. Stay blessed!

@NLP: That's so awesome! Congrats to you as well!

@A-ofo: I asked myself that same question. I put about 10+/- locs on a locloop because if I put too many then the curl will be too loose, but if you make them tight enough then the curl will last.

@Zina: Thanks! Congrats to you too! We are nappiversary twins, lol.

I love reading your lock journey. I was always curious about how joining my sisterlocks would turn out and now I'm confident that my hair will still look good if I decide to join my locks together. Thank you!!

@BlaqueG:It will be alright. This is the best time to sport a twa because you can totally accessorize! I wore a twa twice and both times I wore these cute jewel/gem clips in my hair and people loved it! Be encouraged, you are beautiful!
