Video: Tighten Locs with a Paper Clip

I've been using a paper clip to tighten my new growth ever since my latch hook broke over a year ago. It works well for me and I can adjust the size as needed, but for the most part I don't need to since all my locs can fit through the 'eye' of the tool.

Dewdrop..this may sound like a stupid question.. but how do you do the back? how do you see what you're doing? I can DIY the front with ease but I haven't quite figured out what to do with the mirror to see the back

@Karen: Thanks! I hope it will help many people.

@Gerrylocs: This is a great question and i'm glad you asked. :-) I use a double mirror to do the back, or if I don't have one at the time then i'll try my best to visualize what i'm doing. Maybe if you have your mirrors angled in such a way where you can see the front and back simultaneously, then it might help you to see what you're doing with the back of your locs.

Great post Kalia. I hav been retightening my locs for the last 4 years with a paper clip. What I do is I section them in braids. I handle on braid at a time- by pulling out a loc and use my fingers to ensure that other locs are out of the way and start the retightening. Before I pull thru the lock in the clip, I use my fingers to ensure that I ain't marrying amy strands from a neighboring lock into the one am retightening. I don't even use a mirror. It's now natural.

@Anon: Thanks! It sounds like you have the perfect method for retightening your locs. Thanks for sharing because I know that your method will also help someone. :-)

Great video post! I purchased the nappylocs tool but it hasn't arrived yet... may have to give the paperclip a try in the meantime. :)

Hey, quick question. Do you twist your locs before you use the paperclip or use the paperclip only? I did one without twisting and I think might've made a knot. But I was kind of sleepy at the time,haha. Great video.

@hairgrease: Thank you!

@Romaway: I've only used the paperclip without twisting my locs.
