Loc Cut: Short Layered Style

I finally did it!  I cut my locs about a week after I posted my last video.  It took me a while to share my updates since I had my finals, but i've taken the time over winter break to catch up on my hair pics and videos.  The entire process took about 1 hour, and I felt really good about the decision I had made. I showed off my new style when it was curled (pics coming), but not when it was freestyle since the weather was cold and I wore my winter hat most of the time. My head felt much lighter than before, but they still had some weight to them.  A few of my acquaintances did not recognize me (lol!), and they were surprised when they found out that it was me. One of them felt so inspired that she cut her hair just as short as well.

I videotaped the entire process and I took my time. However, it was too long so I had to condense it, but I made sure to include my commentary about some of the locs.  What you see is 3 yrs. worth of locs snipped where my old set met my new set.  My new set is close to 3 yrs. worth of new growth and they are much stronger and healthier.

Hi Dewdrop,
Your cut/style turned out well and even looks lighter. Huzzah. I have gleaned a lot about combining locs and loc maintenance from you. My hair is just getting to shoulder length (and I suspect it grows slower than yours does). I have thought about keeping it shoulder length, but we'll see. It could be nice to have long hair for the first time in my life. I certainly wouldn't mind if it was as healthy as yours.

The new cut looks good on you. Now you will have to come up with some new styles for the summer. I do have one question -- will you have to do anything special to the cut ends to help them bind together or with nature just take its course?

Thanks.

BEAUTIFUL cut...I could feel the weight as it lifted off you!!! Keep informing, thanks to you and Cheles.

You look like a load is lifted! One thing I felt and I can see in your long pics-is the length of the locks, looks weighted, just the cut really picks it all back up nicely and brightly!

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks so much for your wonderful comments!

@LadyButterfly: LOL! No problem :-)

@M: As long as you continue to take good care of your locs then they will remain healthy. If you would like to grow them past shoulder length, then go for it!

@Anon: I left them alone, and when I did they actually meshed together after washing them a few times.

@Cheleski: Thanks! It's amazing to see my comparison pics, but I didn't have any regrets about the cut knowing how much weight I had on my head.

Hi Dewdrop, I viewed your video on youtube of you cutting your locks about 3 weeks ago...I must say that I love the new cut and style! I was wondering if you would like to "donate" some of your cut locs to me? I started out with sisterlocks™ 9 years ago, but have combined some of my locs, and some are thin and have broken off. Would you please contact me at scarletlocs@yahoo.com

Thank you,
Laura

@Laura: Thank you! Sorry to hear that you've experienced breakage and thinning with some of your locs. I appreciate your request and thank you for thinking of me.

However, i'll be completely honest when I say that I feel uncomfortable about donating my locs, considering how very damaged and brittle they are due to my overuse of peroxide. The video doesn't do the damage justice, so they appear to "look fine" when in reality they are quite weak and shedding.

I hope you'll understand and thank you again for asking. I hope all goes well with your lock journey.
